Hyper-pigmented skin (extra pigmentation in patches) is a problem for many people.
As a guide, we suggest the following simple trial period to see if Simplicité products will help.
And beware - IPL and full cosmetic peels will sooner or later cause freckles or pigmentation patches to enlarge.

When we talk about treating 'hyper-'pigmentation' we are referring to lessening patches of extra pigmentation. ('Pigmentation' is the overall pigment in the skin.)
Sometimes the best we can achieve is just to arrest the progress of the hyper-pigmentation and to stop the areas progressing.
Usually however, we can fade the problem noticeably.
Use the Alba White Day Creme in the morning and the Lemon Night Creme at night. If the hyper-pigmentation looks lighter within two weeks, expand the treatment to include the One Step Exfoliating Cleanser and the Sage Face Oil. Adding the Anti-Oxidant Plant Serum twice daily will help, as will the Hyper-Pigmentation Serums Part A and Part B. Apply these serums twice daily. Of course also use the Plant Gel Cleanser (for relevant skin type).
In cases of persistent hyper-pigmentation it's a 'try it and see' situation. In all cases, use only the Simplicité Great Outdoors Sunscreen SPF15. This is especially formulated in a 'buffered' solution. When the sunscreening agents in sunscreens aren't 'buffered' or 'shielded' in this way they can actually worsen hyper-pigmentation - even though they protect the skin from the sun. Please see below.
CUSTOMER INFORMATION about Hyper-pigmentation.
Do you use a sun block?
I ask because some of the most common triggers for hyper-pigmentation are the chemicals found in sunscreens which don't use appropriate herbal 'buffers' in the formula.
I know this is surprising, and that sunscreens 'are supposed to stop sun damage'. They do stop sunburn - but the chemicals cause oxidative damage in the skin. We've seen this happen many times.
As for other 'treatments' on offer - IPL and full cosmetic peels will sooner or later cause freckles or pigmentation patches to enlarge because of the destructive nature of laser and the resulting damage that the skin has to repair. I can never support or recommend these treatments. We've seen enough to know that there are big problems looming in the long-term with these treatments.
Please read the Hyper-Pigmentation Skin Routine Table for a complete skin treatment routine.
This includes using the Alba White Day Creme - apply this creme in the morning. For best results rub it first between the fingers, pat onthen massage into skin. Other products are the Lemon Night Creme, Antioxidant Plant Serum, Sage Face Oil and the One Step Exfoliating Cleanser. Exfoliate at least 3 times weekly, but daily use makes the biggest difference. Whenever exposed to the sun it is very important to use our sunscreen. DO NOT USE any other sunscreen! As for a Toning Lotion, please use our normal/dry/mature toning lotion as this will help with the pigmentation.
What causes hyper-pigmentation?
'Oxidation' damage in the skin causes all hyper-pigmentation. 'Oxidation' damage can be caused by the sun, unbuffered sunscreen chemicals, pregnancy, normal female hormones, perfume bases (aldehydes) and lots of other ingredients in popular skin care products such as propylene glycol, dimethicone, PABA, triethanolamine (TEA) and preservatives extracted from citrus seed, even though this might be 'natural'.
The fact that all hyper-pigmentation is 'oxidation damage' means that the Antioxidant Plant Serum or better still the two-part Hyper-Pigmentation Serum is vital in this treatment.
I must say again to avoid all sunscreens except our Great Outdoors Sunscreen SPF15. The chemicals in sunscreens often make pigmentation worse - which I know contradicts everything the Cancer Council and dermatologists might say. I treated skin cancer and sun damage at Royal Brisbane Hospital for 7 years, then for 27 years I've been treating sun damage and hyper-pigmentation using fresh plant extracts and it is my repeated experience that the chemicals in sunscreens need lots of protective buffering herbs and nutrients to cut back their negative effects.
