All Simplicite products are safe to use during pregnancy.

Not only that - David Lyons, creator and formulator, also actively recommends using aromatherapy essences at therapeutic levels during pregnancy for their various benefits.

David explains ...

The government department responsible for the safety of all medicines and supplements in Australia supports our view and posts no warnings or restrictions on the THERAPEUTIC use of herbal and aromatherapy products during pregnancy - except the long-held view that repeated, high doses of highly laxative herbs should be avoided.

body-lotion-body-butter-ideal-for-use-in-pregnancyAll Simplicité products are ideal - and safe-  to use during pregnancy. For the face: the Cleansers through to the Serums and Masks, Sunscreen etc.
The body products are also highly beneficial - try our Nutritive Body Lotion and Bath and Shower products, including the Macadamia Body Scrub.

We specifically formulate our Pregnancy Massage Oil for those who have been scared off by baseless, extreme opinions published in various aromatherapy books. But please note that there has never been a shred of even anecdotal evidence to say that that ANY essential oils including the alleged suspects of lavender, sage, basil, geranium, jasmine, marjoram or thyme can't be used at normal THERAPEUTIC levels during pregnancy.

basil-pesto-pastaOf course for many centuries women of various cultures have also taken the above mentioned herbs internally without any negative effect– for example, how long has pesto (basil) been a part of the Italian diet? And herbs such as sage and rosemary as well?

Centuries of Mediterranean women kept on eating all of these, and in amounts much larger than other cultures.

On the contrary, so many of these herbs contain soothing, nutritive, anti-inflammatory components that are supportive to health at normal, nutritive doses.

The evidence to avoid these, even a hint of it with just one person's name attached, just isn't there.

Most pregnant women these days want to be very much informed about what they might be taking internally or applying to themselves.

We're occasionally asked questions about ingredients in our products by mums-to-be – usually because they've read in some aromatherapy books that various essential oils are listed as 'to be avoided' during pregnancy. May I suggest that these books are written from a personal opinion point of view - as is my view of course.

aromatherapyHowever, reference books on aromatherapy, including university-level pharmacology texts, are very specific and make a clear distinction between 'TOXIC' levels and 'THERAPEUTIC' levels of the same aromatherapy essences.

The texts state that 'TOXIC' doses of certain aromatherapy essences are to be avoided - of lavender, sage, basil, rosemary and others.

The view of toxic doses versus therapeutic doses is taught in colleges here in Australia which are affiliated with the international aromatherapy body. THERAPEUTIC levels are very much recommended.

To achieve 'TOXIC' levels of say, basil, the aromatherapy oil has to be applied undiluted to the skin, several times per day for several weeks. Another way toxic doses could perhaps be achieved is to 'burn' or vaporise the straight oils in confined spaces - again this has to be done for several hours per day for several weeks. Breathing this air, in a closed system, over a long period of time could cause problems but no-one really knows as there aren't any recorded instances of anyone managing to do this.

The poisons to avoid during and prior to pregnancy are cigarette smoke, carbon monoxide (sometimes found in centrally heated homes), certain medications, caffeine excess, pesticides, herbicides, heavy metals, petrol fumes as well as poorly stored soft cheeses, poorly stored shellfish and undercooked chicken.

robin-and-boys-1We have sold many thousands of our products since 1992 without any sort of issue ever arising.

Our own two children as well as children born to our staff have mums who used 'absolutely heaps' of our products both on themselves and subsequently on their babies. These mums are also convinced as to the benefits of THERAPEUTIC levels of aromatherapy essences found in our products.
